24.07.2006 BetaCellTherapy project: European Commission proposes continuation of its framework for EU funding of stem cell research

BetaCellTherapy is pleased with the proposal of the European Commission to continue, in its 7th Framework Programme, with the same ethical framework for the EU funding of human embryonic stem cell research as in the 6th FP.

This means that the use of human stem cells, be they adult or embryonic, depends on the judgement of the scientists in view of the objectives they want to achieve. Each project proposing to use human embryonic stem cells must successfully pass an independent scientific evaluation and will then be subject to a stringent ethical review by the European Commission.
